Panthers WR Keyshawn Johnson -- No team did more with less on offense in 2005 than the Carolina Panthers. That they made it to the NFC Championship game with their limited offensive weapons is a tribute to both head coach John Fox and offensive coordinator Dan Henning.

Due to injuries at running back, the lack of pass-catching tight end and inconsistency at backup receiver, Steve Smith was basically their entire offense.

Despite facing constant double teams, Smith caught 103 passes last season. The next closest player in terms of receptions was running back DeShaun Foster with 34. The next closest receivers were Ricky Proehl (now a free agent) and Keary Colbert, who had 25 catches apiece.

No team in the league needed another offensive threat as much as the Panthers. So what did they do? They went out and got an excellent possession receiver in Johnson, who will take a ton of pressure off quarterback Jake Delhomme and Smith.

This should be a perfect match for Johnson and the Panthers. The outspoken Johnson doesn't get along with everyone, but he has a lot of respect for Henning, with whom he worked while with the Jets. Johnson is a perfect fit in the system and Henning knows how to use him to the best of this abilities.

Despite having a monster season, Smith was held in check versus Seattle in the NFC Championship Game. With his new sidekick Johnson on the opposite side, it will be difficult for teams to duplicate what Seattle was able to do in that game.

Please quite fanning those nonexistant flames. Key has stated outright that he knows this is Smiths team at his press conference when we first signed him.

    yep

"Steve Smith will probably be the number one, two and three, depending on the situation."

" It's Steve's passing game. I understand that. I don't have any problems with that, because I'm going to do what I need to do to help the football team win. I didn't come here to try to catch 100 balls."

We'll probably go 7-9 or 8-8. Haven't had back to back winning seasons in franchise history.

with our (perceived) absolute bitch of a schedule and the unlucky see-saw team history I would not be surprised if we somehow ended up 8-8 or worse. However, at the risk of tempting fate, we now have a ton of previous holes plugged to not be expecting a post season run . . . . baring injury or off-field catastrophe (wince)
