Formatting a hard drive will erase everything, but there are programs to recover that if it should happen, even if unlikely it could be done-am I right?

How do you make sure it's gone? Like, how does the goverment do it? Smash the hard drive, would that assure it? Bury it? Throw it in the ocean?
Is that the only thing that one would need to destroy to make damn sure nothing is ever recovered from it?

There are programs but I am sure some others can give you a name. Doesn't C: Format /U do it? There are different levels of format. BUt from what I have read a simple format barely scratches the surface of the hard drive.

To completely erase you gotta do a low-level format of the drive. I don't think you can get that kind of utility retail.

The free version is useless. You can do that much with a standard boot disk, but the government uses the Pro version.

Thanks all. I'm trying to convince him to build a new system vs. updating his old one. (Windows 1955 I think) :banginghe

I'm burning the hell up. I think that's my main problem. I'm tempted to go take a few shots of jack to see if that'll help break my fever.
