Ok, I read the thread above. I have Nero 7 with NeroVision installed. When I take an AVI or MPG from a downloaded tv show that was recorded off the tv (just to be clear on what I'm doing), Nero transcodes it, makes it ready for the DVD and then writes it. Not getting any errors and playback on the computer is smooth and as clear as the original. However, between 18 and 22 minutes into watching, my dvd player is locking up. It starts to "skip" and then just freezes with a Disc Error message. It's happened to every DVD I have burned this week. 10 in all. And, it's doing it on another machine as well. Can still be read in the DVD-ROM drive of any computer and played with WMP. Any ideas what's the problem?

8x drive. three different DVD brands. DVD-R. Burns media and everything else just fine. Still able to backup my other dvds using the decrypt/shrink method above and they work fine.

Well....Walk the Line has now been playing for 51:34 with perfect quality and sound. Not the best movie of all time, but at least your advice worked....for once. ;)

    Luv ya, mean it.

ok, nero is still giving me errors and so is Roxio's v8.0.

It's a transcoding error. Is there a standalone program that will convert avi and mpeg files to DVD so I can watch them somewhere else? BOOTAY?

In short, can't help ya - I haven't had ANY trouble getting downloaded and home-made avi and MPEG files to DVD using Nero (Nero 6, FYI).

Longer - if you are getting transcoding errors, you've got issues, most likely in the original source. If you can transcode to SVCD format, just not DVD, you've likely got a codec or application error. The codec and application errors are both likely to be resolved by using another app to do the transcoding. I've never had problems with Nero, always disliked Roxio, and unfortunately the only other apps I've used for video transcoding functions are DVDShrink and Windows Media Encoder, neither of which will help you.

I'm using Nero 7. Maybe I'll go find Nero 6 instead. Right now I've had to delete both Nero and Roxio cause I couldnt even burn a simple data disc with either of those installed. Must be an error in the program.
