i recently got DSL for my home and have it on a pc there and routed to my laptop wirelessly. It's great much better than dial-up. now, at work i want to get DSL but don't want to pay the extra $79.95 to do it. 99% of my surfing is personal and not business. Is there any way I can take my laptop from home to work and access DSL?

Gotta have a physical connection to your ISP's DSL network. Even if you have a wireless card, some equipment at work must be connected.

what if my company and another in the same building split the cost and I got DSL and I routed it to them (or vice-versa). Would my computer be any more vulnerable to virus/attack since I don't know where they may be surfing?

If you also split the data line and you put a router between you and the DSL line, you would be protected. Mostly, though, good protection comes in the form of having antivirus and antispyware installed on every PC.

Just make sure your laptop is running Windows XP, and you have the firewall turned on. That will keep your partner in crime from getting to your machine (on purpose or by accident).

You can get DSL, buy a router, run a line to their office and one to your machine, and you're all set. Some routers will even let you filter traffic within the network so it could also protect your machine(s) from funky stuff.

Just to make sure i that I understand, you're saying the DSL line comes into my modem, then to the router, and then is split into my laptop and his pc?

Yeah, he plugs into the router, and you plug into the router.
