The returners are fine as they are. Sure, it would be great to have a specialist doing it. But after watching Hakim juggle the football yesterday, I'm not going to complain too much. Smith is reliable and explosive, and I don't think the risk is as great as people think.

I think Hill could do it. Think he could get that extra roster spot?

they said during the NO game that he was 4th in the league for avg per return ... not bad for only giving a half ass effort. if he can keep from taking extra shots (which i think it obvious he's been instructed to do) and still rank near the top ... i'd think that would be a pretty decent way to handle the situation.

I don't want a guy to half-ass it at any point. That's how people actually get hurt, either that or just make yourself look like a big pussy, which isn't what I want a Pro Bowl receiver to look like. Smith's returns are very good in average thanks to that 40+ yarder against Buffalo. You can't discount that, but you also can't discount that he's helped leave us in shitty field position much of the time also.

Brane - Hill does return punts.

Pretty sure he returned some punts in college and tried it during mini camp, I have to look at my notes to be sure.

I wanted us to draft a guy to handle punts and kickoffs ala Dante Hall but we never seem to get it done. Seems like you could find a guy like that on the second day of most drafts.

If he's choosing to return punts and then going out and sliding foot-first all the time, yes. He's not, so it's frustrating to see him having made that decision a couple times.
