Search is broken on the site but didn't you try pushing this a while back and uh... Hurney hasn't had a good 2nd round pick since Kalil.
    02: DeShaun Foster
    03: Bruce Nelson
    04: Keary Colbert
    05: Eric Shelton
    06:Richard Marshall
    07: Dwayne Jarrett
    07: Ryan Kalil
    08:
    09: Everette Brown
    10: Sherrod Martin
    11: Jimmy Clausen
    12: Amini Silatolu

13-17: I assume his great draft history got him work at another franchise but it looks like he did radio at a station he partially owned.

    18: Donte Jackson
    19: Greg Little

Hurney is shit in the 2nd and 3rd, but it would still be a bad idea to trade up. Hopefully Okudah or Simmons falls to 7, but even if that doesn't happen there are plenty of great alternatives. Brown will be a solid DT at absolute worst, Jeudy is a dynamic wideout, and several of the OTs look solid.

Foster, Marshall, Kalil and Martin had decent careers. I know it will make me look stupid, but based on his rookie season alone Colbert looked like a decent pick but the coaching staff wasn't able to help him build on that. Nelson is a special case, and should not be considered for evaluation IMO. Jackson was good in his rookie year, and the book is still out on him and Little. I don't want to count Little and Jackson because it's too early, but outside of them Hurney has got a rough 50% hit rate in the 2nd.

Look at 3rd rounders over the same period.
02: Will Witherspoon. Good pick, good player.
03: Mike Seidman. 18 receptions in his career. wow...
03: Ricky Manning Jr. Looked like a good pick until the rules change. We don't get to the Super Bowl without him.
04: Travelle Wharton. Damn good pick. I hope Daley rises to the occasion the way Wharton did
05: Evan Mathis. Another great pick. Too bad Ogre didn't stay in Carolina
05: Atiyyah Ellison. Played one season in Jacksonville. Dud
06: James Anderson. Good pick and good in Carolina
06: Rashad Butler. Journeyman who got PT in Houston but not much.
07: Charles Johnson. Best 3rd round pick Hurney has ever made.
08: Charles Godfrey. Decent NFL starter, hard to say this was a bad pick even though a lot of us thought he sucked.
08: Dan Connor. I really liked him but he never did much in Carolina. Hurney does pick LBs well though...
    09: Corvey Irvin. Another JAG
10: Brandon LaFell. Had a decent career, even got a Super Bowl ring in New England.
10: Armanti Edwards. Hurney traded UP to get him. Shit...
11: Terrel McLain. Washed out in Carolina but somehow carved out a 12 year NFL career
11: Sione Fua. Bad pick is bad. Lasted four years in the NFL
18: Rashan Gaulden. Already has self-identified as a bad pick
19: Will Grier. Already has shown himself to be a bad pick, but I'll withhold real judgement until after this year because his wife is really hot so he must have something going on.

So, out of 18 total Hurney picks, he's hit on seven who had a good career in Carolina, and eight who had a good NFL career. He hasn't gotten a good Carolina player in over a decade. Basically, his hit rate in the 2nd is better than in the 3rd.

Martin was the starting safety on bad teams and went on to start 2 more times after he left that's not decent that's bad. Colbert left here in disgrace and never reached half his rookie numbers elsewhere hard to put that on the coaches. I'll give you Marshall...
    So that's
    3 incompletes
    7 Misses
    That's just a little less than 50%

8/18 is closer to 50% than the 3rd and the same decade thing applies. Why are you defending a bad GM again?

Saying he's worse in the 3rd than the 2nd isn't the same thing as defending him.

Donte Jackson may turn out to be a good pick, but he needs a bit of a fire lit under his ass. Rivera was way too eager to crown him as the next Josh Norman. In August, I'd love to put him behind some scrub like Corn Elder on the depth chart, just to see how he handles it.
