You know it's a really sad disappointing draft when you are more hopeful about the FA's brought in

Hurney ruined us with money or lack there of, Gettleman will save money by running off talent and not drafting what we need.

Mel Kiper had the Panthers as the third worst draft. New England and Cleveland were worse.

Tennessee had a hell of a draft and Indy did well also. The AFC South is going to be very competitive in 2016.

Mel Kiper of ESPN has handed out draft grades to every team in the NFL.

The Carolina Panthers received an average C+ from the draft guru. Kiper liked the Panthers' pick of Vernon Butler in the first round, citing Dave Gettleman's past history with defensive tackles in the draft, while he thought James Bradberry was a reach in the second round. Here's what Kiper wrote.

"In the 2013 NFL Draft, Dave Gettleman kicked off his tenure as the Panthers GM by taking a pair of defensive tackles in consecutive rounds (Kawann Short and Star Lotulelei) who have become a crucial part of the team's success. Gettleman knows you can't have too much of a good thing on the defensive line, and added Vernon Butler at the end of Round 1. Butler is a great athlete on the interior, and with Short and Lotuleleli heading toward contract years, this insures the Panthers against a drop-off. From there, it was all about cornerback after the departure of Josh Norman last week, and it was often with traits on the mind. James Bradberry (Round 2) and Daryl Worley (Round 3) both have impressive length and could be a fit in Carolina's scheme, I just thought Bradberry was a reach. Zack Sanchez (Round 5) has a chance to be pretty good if he can hold up, because he has instincts and ball skills, but he's really lean.

The question marks: No help for the offensive line, and no true pass-rusher, though I think Butler helps in that area. I also would've liked to see a safety here."

One can't really argue with Kiper's question marks. Many believed the Panthers needed help at defensive end with Charles Johnson on a one-year deal and Kony Ealy still unproven as an every-down player. Nonetheless, the team believes in its talent there, and apparently along the offensive line, too.
