I think it was more about the money than being the number one guy. He is marginally the number one guy in Chicago.

The price was pretty high but imagine this:

2005 Moose provides a good second option for Jake and Smitty does not face as many double teams. We win one more game getting a home playoff game. We are better rested and beat Seattle to go to the superbowl

2006 Moose and Jake have better chemistry and the interceptions on passes intended to Keyshawn against the Eagles and Bengals do not happen. We win both games and the NFC South.

That, and triple teaming Smitty in the NFCCG is disastarous for Seattle.

It really might have been the difference between a superbowl season and a NFCCG season. Heck I think we would of had a good chance at beating the Steelers. Think how red hot Moose was at the end of 2004....

Yeah, Moose was great in '04. And he and Smitty worked together really well too. Things would have been better with him here.

But there was plenty of talk about him wanting to be a number one back when he left; for sure he wanted to be paid as one. I wish he'd have given us the brother-in-law rate and finished up here but he wanted all the money.

I wonder what his salary is for next year? He hasn't exactly given them #1 play for #1 money considering his age :newsmile50:

Well that was the thing. The first year or even the second year is cool, but the last years of a deal like that are likely to see diminishing returns.

Chicago paid him all that jack, but who the hell is there to get him the ball?

I'd want all the money, too, especially if my means of earning income had a shelf life.

Go to your job and demand three times the pay. If someone else offered you the same job for that money, you'd go.

At any rate, part of the problem in Chicago is, obviously, QB. And as we've seen with Moose here, young, inexperienced QBs don't chuck as many balls his way. Veterans know that he'll go up and get the ball anyway, and that with him, it's not if he's open but if he has favorable position.

Keyshawn has absolutely no reason to retire. He's been exactly what we hoped he would be as a #2, he's been a good teammate, and there's too much money on the table to just walk away.

I was worried about Carter getting stolen away after the Baltimore game, but since his production dropped over the second half of the season, I doubt any team will make a run at him. There's enough potential #3's in free agency, so I'd be very suprised if someone gave up a draft pick for Drew. Honestly, he's shown flashes, but he doesn't appear capable of being a starter.

He'll be here, too. In Smith, Johnson, and Carter, we have what we need at the position. What I would like to see us address, though, is the #4 spot. When we get rid of Colbert, we should replace him with a WR/KR. I don't think Biddle is that guy. We forced him into being a returner, but he simply isn't very good at it. That would make me okay with someone like Chansi Stuckey.

While I love Carter and want him here, the guy has injury issues and is too skinny to be a solid every down #2 or at least I fear he is. Remember how Smitty & Jake kept calling Proehl not to retire prior to his last year here? Wonder if they've contacted Keyshawn at all? I felt like Smitty & Key seemed to get along and their relationship seemed to improve as the season progressed. Initially they spoke but didn't hang out together on the sidelines, but I saw more and more direct contact and seeking each other out toward the end of the season. I think we need a big tough guy who can do what both Moose and Keyshawn can do by screening off the defender and can catch the ball, take a hit and hang on and also not break.

What about Aundrae Allison (East Carolina)? He's a local boy (Kannapolis) who's 6'1"/202lbs, got excellent speed and quickness, great hands, playmaker. Oh yea, did I mention he's a local boy.

Word is he will probably go rounds 2-4. Would be a great pick if he's still there after 4th round.
