It makes the Williams pick a year ago a bit more clear. Williams is not an every down NFL back. That's not a real knock because they're very few of them. The pick is solid, I like it. The guy has the size and speed combo that is very rare. He could be a steal, time will tell.

Chris Mortensen of ESPN just said we were the big losers today. Why? Because we mortgaged our future? Nope, because we didn't get a QB. Idiot.

How do you know? And nothing about Stewart's size or speed is rare, nor the combination of the two. He's talented, but in no way extraordinary. It's not that he personally is a bad player, but rather that we had much bigger needs. We already had a starter. For that matter, we already had a backup who is a lot like Stewart himself, only a lesser version.

Mort's been saying Delhomme was on the outs since early 2006. It's early 2008, and he's still here. Doesn't mean he'll always be here, but Mort needs to lose the agenda on this one.

Hate it, agree with the other no vote explanations. Somebody's gonna get a good back on day two, it could have been us. And we could have had a first round pick next year.

I agree with Collin about being surprised so many people are saying yes. Stewart was a hell of a reach. D'Angelo is a backup player. We are a run offense with bad running backs. I don't know how we went 7-9 last year.

Of course I loved the pick. It was the best thing we could do at that spot. I would have been happy with Harvey, Clady, Stewart or Mendenhall. I liked Stewart better than Mendenhall until I heard about his injury, then I got a case of Biakabatukaitis. Now that I find that our doctors are the ones that did the surgery, I feel pretty good about it.

Stewart is great between the tackles, he knocks people over and drags them along. He is a powerful runner. As for him bouncing outside, sure when there isn't anything there, he does what a runner should do.

Colin Linsay had him ranked as the 8th best pick in the draft. Scott Wright had him at the 10th best pick. Our team agreed as they should have, damn good value if not a steal.

I just don't understand what seems to be fairly intelligent people not understanding the idea of the running game as just that, the running game instead of first stringers, second stringers and backups.... We now have a guy that can stretch the defense horizonitally and one that can suck safeties up to the middle. Smith is going to love that. We will finally get those short yardage gains and move the chains. The defense is going to love that.

Hurfox has had the black cat curse on the O line one year, Qbs another and RBs another. They knew they had to have strong depth through out the offense or else . On defense other than Morgan we just have had the typical normal dings.

With Harvey gone, I guess I understand the pick. He is a good back and we needed another, but not as much as we needed a pass rush, and we could have addressed RB later. I like that they jumped up to get an OT, but I am not especially happy that the OT they chose was Otah. I like the 3rd rd pick as long as they plan on putting him at S. I still don't see a pass rush.

Why? Since when have our doctors done anything but fuck people up?
Have you even watched Oregon? I ask because you just described some runner who isn't named Jonathan Stewart. The Ducks didn't run inside much anyway, and when they did it was usually on draws. He is not a power runner, although he has the size and strength, so hopefully he'll become one.
I have no idea who Wright is, and Lindsay is spotty. Most pundits had Stewart lower than 13, although few had him out of the first round (those who did generally chalked it up to injury concerns). Regardless, the point is that we already had a first round running back on the roster.
If we're obviously smart and have proven that we know what we're talking about, but you don't understand what we're thinking, that usually means that you're just not able to understand it. Look, Stewart and Williams can't play at the same time. They also can't block for themselves. They also can't justify their draft slot when splitting time. The glass half full perspective is to say that we have two chances at a quality NFL starter, but the reality is that even if one succeeds, it means that the other did not. One way or the other it means we wasted a first round pick, and the worst case scenario is if we wasted both.
