wasnt buying the hd-dvr box for $199.

Im still trying to figure how I got had though. I got the "ticket" deal which is pretty much everything for $64.99 for 4 months. The hddvr was has a $199 instant rebate as do all all the other boxes. $0 upfront cost.

If I signed up for the same deal without the ticket, I had to pay $297 upfront for the boxes. I felt like I was buying a car.

Sounds like you are renting the boxes by getting the ticket as opposed to buying them.

With 8 inches of rain and hurricane-style clouds you either have the best installation known to man, or are lying. Regardless, it doesn't change the fact that satellite will always have the 'torrential rain' problem.

That said, there were plenty of times when it rained where my satellite didn't go out, but chiming in with anecdotal evidence doesn't really show it isn't a problem.

actually mine didn't go out the last rain... it has a couple of times though but never for more than 5 minutes or so... but it's not from rain, it's from those thick clouds when a nasty front rolls in

My DirecTV service has been good also. Of course we haven't had monsoon type stuff.
