Hamilton replaces Robinson at Florida State

Multiple sources close to Leonard Hamilton and at Florida State told ESPN.com that Hamilton will accept the Florida State head coaching opening at a Tuesday afternoon news conference.

Hamilton is scheduled to be introduced at 3:30 p.m. ET. The sources said Hamilton was in Tallahassee, Fla., on Tuesday.

Hamilton, who coached Miami for 10 seasons, including reaching the Sweet 16 in 2000, left to coach the Washington Wizards in the NBA. He lasted just half a season.

Hamilton told ESPN.com last week that he was anxious to get back into coaching but wanted to be in a situation where he could win and only wanted to take a job in a city he wanted to live. That ruled out openings at Arkansas, DePaul and TCU, schools in cities he had no interested in living.


Hamilton replaces Steve Robinson, who was fired earlier this month after five seasons. Hamilton was responsible for resurrecting the Hurricanes program.

as you know, he's from around here.

he's got experience rebuilding programs, recruiting top talent, postseason play and graduating players. i was hoping for someone with a bit more flash (ala billy donovan), but that's a short-sighted approach -- i just want the stands to be filled.

there's nothing bad to say about this hire.
