6+ yards per carry is insane regardless of the sample size. As noted, DeAngelo and Stewart are both top-50 all-time in yards per carry, at least for now. DW in particular seems to have a gift for breaking big ones, but mixes in a lot of no gains and losses as well. If Carolina would run Washington's pistol stretch play, Williams would be brilliant at that.

Slowing down or not, he's suited up on gameday a lot more than Stew. And aging, I wonder if that mght be really unkind to Stew seeing as he can't stay on the field now.

Which is why I wanted to trade Stewart instead of extending him. *sigh*

Just reading this now, had a similar thought. Dont you find it weird we never adapted to the success they had using that formation?

Yeah that seemed the obvious outcome after giving DW all that money. *sigh* too. I didn't want Stew drafted for that matter.

Washington got their guy in the 6th this year.

No. Did you see any other teams adding it during the season? Just because you can change offenses on Madden doesn't mean it's easy to do at the NFL level.

Speaking of guys who used to be on the roster that killed it this year (Mathis, Montgomery, etc), Andre Brown had a really nice season for the Giants. Spending two first rounders in three years on running backs is Matt Millenish.

two different types of players, though. I like DW, but he's definitely a homerun hitter. Which, between that and scheme (our zone, not even getting into the options), can lead to some failures. He's definitely the guy who's trying to break one every time. Morris lumbers around the outside and has a lot better blocking, along with the finest teaching of zone running out there. He's not as talented. But, it never hurts that he'll take 4 yards when 4 is there.

most teams haven't. We do have that diamond type formation - a back flanking shotgun, a back behind - which is kinda neat. But there's a different timing to the pistol.

I do think it's interesting that pro teams are interested in getting Chris Ault, the Nevada coach/pistol proponent, to consult. Guy'll spend a few days in camp with 10 teams and make his year's money.

I'm dying to see it here. We both agree that shotgun runs aren't ideal. I still don't understand why defenses don't load the side opposite the RB against the shotgun. I guess you worry that they might run a speed option to that side.
