The Patriots' win over the Carolina Panthers in 2003 attracted 89.8 million, Nielsen said.

The New England Patriots' Super Bowl victory over the Philadelphia Eagles was seen by an estimated 86.1 million people.

Charlotte's ratings for the Daytona 500 were the fourth highest in the nation, according to Nielsen Media Research figures released Tuesday.

Sunday's race was viewed in 21 percent of the 1 million households in the Charlotte TV market versus 11 percent of households nationwide. And of all the TVs turned on in the Charlotte area during the race period, 35 percent were watching Daytona on Fox (WCCB, Channel 18).

Nationally, viewing was highest in Greensboro, followed by Orlando, Greenville, S.C., Charlotte and Atlanta. The race was viewed by a national TV audience of about 12 million, up slightly from last year's broadcast on NBC.

That's as close as racing could possibly get to the SB in terms of ratings. 89 million people aren't going to watch cars turn left all day

Your Title is true.. The Daytona 500 is the Super Bowl of Racing... Not ever has anyone tried to say the Daytona 500 was equal in ratings to the Super Bowl....although for a 1 day event Nascar racing has more in attendance at the event than attendance to a Super Bowl. Exceptions are or were rockingham, darlington and possibly 1 or 2 other tracks.
