I actually would not want a starter who cannot start more than 1 of every 3 or 4 games. That's probably the best he'll ever do. He needs a calcified diet.

In short he's not a team liability but probably a cap liability.

He was crying like a little baby when he got the wind knocked out of him during the preseason. I have had the wind knocked out of me and it is not fun but he looked paniced. I wonder if all this tough guy hype was just hype. Maybe we just need to let Witherspoon play in the middle all the time. He does pretty well with it.

He didn't get the wind knocked out of him he got kicked in the throat, maybe you should try that. Get your facts straight.

I know you're upset about Morgan, Thelt, but don't dramaticize shit. Morgan was not crying.

This is why Seifert wanted Morgan outside, and that still seems to be a valid place for him - one that would likely get him banged up less.

Yes, I felt like in the WCO that McAllister would be an interesting choice, and wanted Kendrell Bell or Jamie Winborn in the second (Bell did not last, and did go to the Pro Bowl). But an injury prone RB here doesn't exactly make for the perfect fit. Truth be told, I like others were pushing for a guy like Travis Henry. In the end, I figured we'd take Marcus Stroud. I'm glad we didn't go that route, as well, and certainly am more than happy about the remainder of those picks that year.

I dunno. I might want to put Morgan outside a year, to see if he can handle it better, if he'll control his body better. And I might see if I can keep him out of the weight room some - face it. He's maxed out, and he's not a huge frame. Let him grow back into his body and I guarantee you he plays a full season outside.

    You guys are idiots.

There are some injuries you can play with. Bruised ribs. A (somewhat) sprained ankles. Broken hand.

If your hammy is screwed up, it's not a matter of not being able to play through it - it's a matter of simply not being able to.

Yeah, it sucks that he keeps getting injured. But I don't think it's got anything to do with toughness - wasn't he playing with a broken hand?

My father-in-law told me about his old unit commander in Korea who would actually fine the soldiers a days pay if they had any sort of muscle or ligiment pulls. The exact wording on the citation was "Neglect of Government Property" with the idea being that if proper conditioning is maintained per Army standards, those types of injuries will not occur.

Hard core old school military BS I know, but there are so many great players out there that seem to not have these things happen all the time. I certainly do not want to say I dislike Morgan or have no sympathy for what is happening. I know the guy is propably hurting inside that he is not on the field. But one must begin to conceed he will never really be worth the investment. Either nature did not make him durable enough or he has failed, but regardless I doubt he will be a star in this league.

And if I am wrong, hurrah! Please let me be, because that just means more defense. Time will tell..

And while on the subject of LBs, sitting here watching MNF. Is it just me, or is Brian Urlacher the most overrated backer in the NFL? I am not sure I would give up on any of our backers for him.

Didn’t we try Morgan weak side his first year? I recall that he was not very effective until he was back in the middle. Are you suggesting switching he and Spoon, or trying Morgan strong side?
That’s an interesting point about him overloading his frame too. I’m a little worried about Jenkins up over 350 now. Wasn’t he svelte and relatively ripped at about 300 at this time just last year?

Yes, no (he was effective as a rookie could be expected to be, before injury), weakside switching with Spoon, and yeah, it's interesting. jenkins is a different case - because fat doesn't hinder flexibility or cause injuries from tightness, inflexibility, or over-built bodies. But the weight wears down on you either way. For the record I think Jenkins doesn't look that fat even now.

IMO the Bears' defense, and Urlacher in particular, really miss Ted Washington. He and Traylor kept the interior line from tying up Urlacher, and he was able to run free. Bryan Robinson just isn't as effective.

Spoon never got hurt in the middle, and he's smaller than Morgan.

I bet Spoon has started nearly as many games at middle as Morgan has.
