The other threads have alot of other shit going on, so I figured I'd start another.

This could ( should ) be a big offseason for cleaning house. Rucker will likely be gone, but he's off contract anyway. Statement year for moves by a staff that's been called loyal to a fault.

These guys should go, without much question:

    Foster $4.75 million salary
    Morgan $2.85 million salary
    Carr $???

What's the actual savings from these moves, and who else can we add to the list?

    according to my sources:

morgan has $2.4 million in pro-rated amounts. half of that could be pushed to 2009.

Foster has $1 million in pro-rated money. we would save $3.75 million.

Carr...strange. cant find his. i'll keep looking.

What about Lucas, would you drop him? Gamble and Marshall are capable.

Our OL is full of guys who should be better than they are. Wahle and Hartwig both were "big name" guys that we overpaid for. Gross is good but not great. Kalil was supposed to be the best center in the draft but has not seen the field. Bridges looked good last year but has not done much this year. Wharton is the only guy who has over achieved, IMHO.

Lucas has had several active games in a row so tough call. Can't really judge Gamble right now based on the cast, but he's been a bit quiet. Marshall I have loved since preseason.

I looked at Lucas a few weeks ago...his cap numbers make me think they will keep him at least one more year. plus, he is our best corner...we should keep him IMO.

Found Carr's. I must have been blind earlier.

Total cap # in 2008 is $4.35 mil with $1.5 million in pro-rated bonus counting as part of that. We save $2.85 million by cutting him.

Agree. No one's mentioned Kemo, but I think we should keep him too. He's made alot of good plays to go along with his poor ones. No one's mentioned Jenks either. Good thing. I do think he's turned the corner emotionally, and I want him here.

    Lucas sounds worried. From Reed:

Home > UPDATE: Richardson tells NFL Network that Fox, Hurney won't be fired

Lucas shouldn't be worried. I think he stays. I'm not against Rucker staying either - again, he is what he is and he's shown he's still an asset even if he's not pressuring the QB five times a game.

At any rate, there's some obvious cutting that will save.

I'm fine with those two staying, and if need be, Moorehead or Lewis as the passing downs guy. We need one of the two backups to be a run stopper though.
