Well, you swing that way. I'm down with you, so I begrudgingly accept it when you say it. But if you ever say "LBer", I'm coming to Mt. Olive with a knife.

As disappointing as Shelton has been, Harris is stocking groceries. And in regards to Jacobs, I don't remember any of us buzzing too much about him before the draft.

1st round (14): Question mark (could be dominating on a team that needed him more)
2nd round (54): Disappointment but not a complete bust yet
3rd round (79): Possible eventual starter (I'm optimistic, but he's not contributing yet)
3rd round (89): I still don't know how that happened
    4th round (121): Looks like a solid back-up
    etc

If Davis and Mathis were needed more, perhaps this draft would look better than it does. It's disappointing right now, but give it some time.

I'm baffled by the Ellison thing, there must be something we don't know that went on behind the scenes. I'd hate to think it was purely poor talent evaluation.

I'm still down with Davis and feel we were forced into drafting insurance, or thought we were. Depth is there at RB tough, with SD ready to go. Shelton probably isn't hurt that bad and will have time to adapt. Looks like it helped Carter.

I'm a wait at least one year Goober. To me, this is the year we can figure out if Gamble was a smart pick, and I think he'll prove to be. It's also time for Siedman to step up, from the year before. Why is it terrible to think we have to wait a while to really judge it?

I don't think that Davis was a matter of insurance at all. I think he was drafted, at face value, as a versatile guy who's simply a football player. We don't have guys who hit on this D - occasionally Minter. We don't really have guys who tackle that well either, sadly. Davis does both. We certainly liked that, I'm sure.

The need issue's a great point, of course. Yeah, that does make things look more hopeful, if it's there - there's an obvious slot for the player, even if the player ends up turning out badly.

And if we had bigger needs at RB, I imagine they'd be spending tons of time with Shelton trying to squeeze what they could from him. (and he wouldn't have gone on IR). Obviously, if we had a big hole at DT, Ellison would be in pads this Sunday.

On Jacobs - I'll own up to being mixed about him. I got wary of how big he was, whether he could run low. I wasn't sure if he could stay low, and he didn't seem to have a pro position yet. I'd have loved his ability to potentially play TE or FB in an open offense, but the end result is that he never really responded to the other positions at all. I think I argued against Shelton a little pre-draft, but relented thinking that not much behind him could carry the load. Oh well.

Speaking of which, the guy I was really high on at DT, Ronald Fields (the one after that, IIRC, being Lorenzo Alexander), went next, but not until round 5. I have no idea how he's been doing in SF, but he seemed like the type DT I figured we'd want.

Hopefully, these guys will each pull it out. I don't care if Lefors works out, because we don't need him if all goes well within the next 3 years. But the 4 picks above him, as of now, are all technically on the team, by a thread, and that's more distressing than concerning.

Mags, I think I was unclear, being there are two Davis' in this discussion. I meant to say that I'm down with getting T Davis (love it, really), and felt like Shelton was drafted as insurance for S Davis. Now that #48 is back, we could afford to stash Shelton.

Btw, I have a shitty story and need to vent. I met a guy w/a bunch of Panthers season tix, and was invited to the opener (never made it to a game yet). But, I find that a place I gig regularly has a big 9/11 benefit and I am expected to participate if I want to stay on the shedule.... shit. But okay, as long as they don't put my sorry no playing ass on until after 4:30. Went over there tonight to check the lineup: they have me @ friggin' 1:30. Fucks the whole pregame, and probably the whole first half. :banginghe :banginghe :banginghe :banginghe :banginghe :banginghe

undrafted same as Sam Mills wasn't he? granted the odds are against undrafted FAs are long but enough of them prove the system wrong through continued hard work and peseverance that we should know better than to totally dismiss them all as untalented. i didn't see ellison do squat in preseason and carstens kept making plays, which tells me that he has some talent. course i reckon you're trying to point to the likes of magnum, hoov, goings, wallace, ... just was pointing out that being an undrafted FA doesn't always equate with being untalented
