I know that you like to play semantics whenever you feel embarrassed, but no, I'm quite clearly talking about how Crumpler benefited from Vick, and that Vick would not be the quarterback in your theoretical. Therefore, Crumpler wouldn't do as well.
Again, in 2007 Jeff King caught 46 balls for 406 yards while Crumpler caught 42 for 444.
Tight end is WAY, WAY down on the list of concerns, evidenced by the fact that you never even mentioned upgrading there this off-season until news of Crumpler's release. We do need to improve, but tight end is not the place where we should be investing our meager resources. In fact, this is one of those cases where people are latching onto a familiar name instead of thinking logically, but you usually blast people for doing that instead of engaging in it yourself.

Interesting opinion. Why do you feel that you play semantics?

It's not semantic though. It's a theoretical, and a theoretical in which I believe Crumpler gains, not loses. "you don't watch the game" is just a stock insult you use anyway.

The theoretical is that the player is a better quarterback, not just a different one.

well aware. If your statement is that Crumpler is declining, then fair enough, I don't, but he's clearly the better TE. If Carr hadn't heaved a bunch of passes his way as an outlet in a big loss, would you believe Crumpler the better player?

Why is that again? We should improve. It's going to be at G, 2nd WR, or TE. The hypothetical starters for every other spot, realistically will be there. Maybe Hoover won't, but do you realistically see a different fullback adding a receiving threat?

So - will just a guard and a second tier WR make this offense where it should go?

We came into the year with Gaines promoted as the starter, and he didn't even make it out of camp. King did an admirable job, but he's not unreplaceable.

I don't. You never see me trying to hide behind what I meant by a "handful" or refusing to answer questions. I don't act like a bitch because I'm not scared of admitting when I actually am wrong.
There's nothing stock about it. It's simply a fact that watching Falcons games would help you realize that Crumpler benefited considerably from Vick's scrambling ability. Abusive had already alluded to that before you commented, which is what started this exchange.
In 2007, Jeff King caught 46 balls for 406 yards while Crumpler caught 42 for 444. You can take out King's best game if you want to do the same to Crumpler. The fact is that most games Alge only had 2 or 3 catches too. In fact, he only had three games all season where he had more than 3. That's your big upgrade? That's an elite tight end?
Answer this direct question. Did you at any point during this off-season mention needing to upgrade at tight end before Crumpler was rumored to be released? Just answer the question, yes or no.

You do. You're consistently one of the ones playing it the absolute most. Want to start a poll on whether you play semantics?

Yes it is, because you know I've caught and identified things in games that you also noted, later noticed, or didn't notice. You know I watch games, so it's just something you throw out there like the intelligence questions you throw out over and over.

Sure. And I never said Crumpler had a great year. He missed two games, which was more than normal, and had 3 different QBs. Of course, he scored more TDs, and always has done somewhat well there despite being on a heavy run scoring team (until this year).

If I put those words in your mouth, you'd frother over the edges about how I'm a liar. I like pointing these out, because you're not above it, but you consider it a personal affront.

At any rate, no, he's not elite and I didn't intimate he was. I said he was an upgrade. I believe he is. The community as a whole seems to follow as well.

Yes. I'll go look for it. Of course, I'm sure you're already searching it out, or have, but the phrase TE isn't searchable.

When I did, it was a roleplayer, sometimes even the blocker we have both mentioned here, but I did specifically suggest that it would be nice to get better at TE or FB. When the options improved, I pushed it more. Here. There weren't any good TE coming out this year, and no especially solid FAs, so there hasn't been much to mention until one came available. Interesting ideal, though. The whole "an opinion isn't legitimate because I want the player instead of the position" thing. If I just wanted Crumpler, I think you'd have to show me what's wrong with that.

Any of this sounding familiar? a pass catching TE who did well when he worked as the dump off for a scrambling quarterback that kept Ds keyed in but isn't overly athletic or real good hands wise- what is Jermaine Wiggins up to these days?

Crumpler doesn't just catch dump off passes from scrambling QB's. Just a couple of years ago, he beat Ken Lucas on a go route for about 40yds in BOA stadium. Call me crazy, but I kind of like the idea of having a TE that can actually win a one on one match up with a CB from time to time. King cannot do that, nor can he make something happen after the catch like Crumpler can. IMO, Crumpler would do more to open things up for Smitty than any of the FA WR's that are on the market right now. Assuming he can pass a physical, that is.

I can def. see us trading down. I remember watching the Wake/UVA game and noticed Brandon Albert was pretty awesome. He can get down the field and he has some pretty solid inline power. Trading down to the late first and grabbing him could prove solid value.
He's no doubt an upgrade at G but again I worry that the brass view what we have as plenty capable and thus won't invest anything further.
