I tried and could not find - I found a blurb that said he had been $5.1 million against the cap this year.

His salary was $3.4 - so $1.7 was prorated bonus. He had 3 years left on his deal, so assuming they take they cap hit over 2 years, they save $850k.

Saving $850k is a bad reason to cut a guy, so hard to call it a cap decision.

did they call it a june 1 style cut? If so then they save more.

I don't know. Of course, in the end, you could always chalk it up to new GM getting rid of guys that aren't "his".

How so? I thought the June 1 cut would make it $850k.

There was a total of $5.1 million in prorated bonus ( I think ) and $3.4 million in salary for 2008.

So - either way you slice it not alot of savings.

june 1 cut means that the proration goes to the next year, other than the current year's. So it'd be a $3.4 mil savings.

Happy at least that the team is showing interest. Whether we get him? Impossible to say.

    Crumpler Carolina bound?
Alge Crumpler | Falcons | Interested: Seahawks? Panthers?
The Panthers plan to explore the possibility of signing Crumpler once the tight end officially appears on the NFL waiver list, according to the Charlotte Observer.
Crumpler was released as part of a seven-player purge by the Falcons on Feb. 15. Carolina offensive coordinator Jeff Davidson made a lot of noise about getting the tight ends more involved in the passing game when he was hired before last season.

Seattle is also believed to be interested in Crumpler.

I was just going off a google search on Crumpler that yielded results about his recent knee problems.

ATLANTA -- For the second time in two years, Atlanta Falcons star tight end Alge Crumpler has undergone offseason surgery that will force him to miss some time in the team's conditioning program.

The team announced Tuesday that Crumpler, a four-time Pro Bowl performer and the club's most consistent receiver for much of his six-year career, underwent arthroscopic surgery last Friday to clean debris from his left knee. Crumpler has been forced to contend with swelling and pain in the left knee for the past two seasons.

Last summer, Crumpler had offseason surgery on his left shoulder, and Falcons officials came under fire when they did not divulge the procedure until just before training camp.

Given the timing of the knee surgery, Crumpler was not able to participate in Tuesday's initial mandatory minicamp workout under first-year head coach Bobby Petrino and almost certainly will miss all three days of the session. There is no timetable yet for his return to the field, but it is believed Crumpler will be recovered well in advance of training camp.

Four-time Pro Bowl tight end Alge Crumpler has been advised by an orthopedic specialist to sit out practices, likely for at least a week, to rest his surgically-repaired left knee. Crumpler, 29, has experienced discomfort in the knee during training camp and sought medical counsel last week for the problem.

This marks the second time in two summers that Crumpler, a six-year veteran, has been limited in camp. There have been some days in camp so far in which Crumpler did not work at all. He has been limited even when on the field.

Because of the surgery, Crumpler also missed considerable time in the offseason program and did not participate in minicamps.

In early April, he underwent an arthroscopic procedure to clean debris from his left knee. Crumpler had been forced to contend with swelling and pain in the left knee for the past two seasons. Last summer, Crumpler had offseason surgery on his left shoulder.

"It's been frustrating for him," coach Bobby Petrino said. "He came out, felt pretty good for a while, then came back and some pain was back again. He went down and saw another doctor. They think he just needs a little bit more time."

ATLANTA -- Alge Crumpler's chronically sore knee could sideline the four-time Pro Bowl tight end for the Atlanta Falcons' game at New Orleans on Sunday.

Crumpler, the Falcons' leading receiver the last three years, has played in 40 straight games, including 39 starts, despite having arthroscopic surgery on his left knee the last two offseasons. He was held out of practice this week.

My bad... he only had 1 surgery on his knee and one on his shoulder.

We know an issue was there. That they cut him because of it, that's certainly not the same. All I'm saying.
