cork flooring

anybody have this or know anything about it? im thinking about it for my custom kitchen, instead of tile.

 

It looks good and it's supposed to be very durable.

 

I've worked with it before, I believe they came in cork board squares. VERY good for the environment, b/c cork regenerates itself, and you can harvest what you need without cutting the tree down. Good "green" choice, also looks good, easy on the knees, and is hip right now. Don't know about durability or stain resistance, but if using cork board squares, if one gets F'ed up, you can just pull it up and replace. Good luck.

We just put down prefinished oak floor in one bedroom. It was easy to do and at $3.99 for the premium planks it was a very good deal. You can get a good looking prefinished oak floor for as little as $2.99 but you get a lot more waste in a box of floor.


It me and my husband 2 days to complete a good sized bedroom floor and we had never done it before.

 

Like bamboo, it is nice to look at and somewhat inexpensive, but it's easily damaged. I mean, come on, it's cork. If you have pets, kids, or grandkids, I would skip it.

 

coat it with a polyurethane. it is easy on the feet and things are less likely to break if dropped on it.

 

seal it for sure. otherwise moisture will delaminate it.

 

so should we go for it or opt for the tile? do you guys have it in your house?

 

Be a playa, install the cork, you'd be the first on your court, then you can tell us how much you love your new cork floor, and thank god you didn't put down tile. good luck.
