    4th CB.

Wesley had no defensive stats for CB - only special teams, after he replaced Hampton. Now with no Cooper and both branch/Tillman a little dinged, I'm figuring this is the plan. The moves have to be somewhat related. Hopefully this new WR is better than Broussard and we'll be able to use that roster spot.

he's too thin. He'll probably be the CB with Wesley moving to safety. May groom Branch to be the eventual SS now and Wesley as the future FS.... not sure about any of this, but its a thought.

    Ross is ST player.

If it wasn't drugs, they'd have said it.

    Foxhole: Cooper waived
    October 28, 2004

    Panthers.com

Comments from Carolina Panthers Head Coach John Fox following the team's practice.

On why safety Jarrod Cooper was not at practice: We have made a change. We have picked up (wide receiver) Micah Ross, who was waived by San Diego. We made this decision because we think it makes us a better football team.

On if Cooper was waived: Yes.

On if Cooper's previous off-the-field problems contributed to the decision to waive him: Every personnel decision we make, we make to make us a better football team. They are all football decisions. We are not really able to comment on that without getting into specifics. We thought it was best for our football team.

On if Cooper had become a distraction to the team: I am not getting into specifics. It was purely a football decision that we thought would make us a better football team.

On wide receiver Micah Ross: He played against us for San Diego last week. I know Scott O'Brien feels real good about his abilities on special teams. We prepared for him. Last year, he was with Jacksonville for their opener (against Carolina). We are very aware of him and know what he brings to the table. We thought it improved us.

On if Ross will play Cooper's roles on special teams: He'll be a big part of the special teams.

On practice squad moves: We picked up Sultan McCullough. He had been on the Washington Redskins practice squad.

On trying to find the right offensive line combination: We've got a couple of guys that are competing for jobs and we'll make a decision on who starts later in the week and go with that. Last week, we had a group. There were some guys that were missing or weren't available. We'll go through the same process this week just like we do with every position every week.

I like the McCullough pick up. I thought when he was released that he would be a nice addition.
