Converting DVD to AVI

    Don't know if it's been covered here before, but I'm banging my head against a wall trying to convert some of our DVDs to AVI so my wife can watch them on the laptop when we go out of town in a couple weeks. Is there any software that someone would recommend that actually makes the process simple? And for that matter......is there a better format, besides AVI, to convert to?
