Just to be clear, the advice is to report back on whether there is slowdown when the machine runs for a while without neopets involved. If it is ONLY slow after neopets, and you can fire it up and let your kids play supervised (to make sure they aren't doing something else that's hosing things up) for a while to test, then it is very likely that either 1) Neopets is a trojan carrier or 2) Neopets is poorly coded and has a memory leak. If it is a memory leak, there's not much you can do other than upgrade to WinXP to gain INCREDIBLY better memory management capabilities...

    Good luck!

Re: Neopets only. I'll have to ban my son for a day and then report back about that. I think it slows anyway. Sometimes the screen goes black except for a blinking cursor.

Second, I only have 196K RAM, not 256, so if I had to upgrade memory and then upgrade OS, I might as well buy a new computer. Which is coming sooner than later I am afraid, just not in the budget now (the computers we use at both of our work rock, so the one here at home is neglected, just no need till I want porno or something)

I set the VM at 512MB. The max available was 9700MB or something. It says 70% resources available, this is only with IE running. Thanks for your help.

do you have a disk defragger? i'm not sure what comes with 98, but running one might give you an idea of whether your pagefile is overly fragmented.
