Just a guess but Hardy probably would have been worth a 4th rounder next year, based on this explanation. It gets interesting to try to weigh on-field value against the off-field costs of cap hit and potential comp picks. I guess Ozzie has made a science of it.

A wild guess is all you can do, since it's based on a contract and next year's performance. It's, as some would say, a fluid situation.
