Made most sense so far. Delhomme needs to improve his play. Colbert, no doubt needs to as well. Last week he dropped a TD that would have given us that game. BUt Delhomme's been throwing the ball out of bounds in the EZ a lot lately, and throwing way too high. I have to think Colbert snares a few of those.

Colbert actually reminds me of Moose, the way the two started out. It took a while for Moose for really come on. In his defense though, when he had a decent quarterback throwing him the ball, he had good numbers. Or you could twist it to say he had his two best seasons in contract years. Last year was damn well a contract year for him, and he knew it.

Still....he left us for a little more money, and said he was around a real defense. THat hurt me a bit. He admitted he wanted to be the number one, and all we were going to do was pass to Smitty. Maybe true, but Moose is his absolute best as a number 2. THat being said, hes meant a whole damn lot for us for years, and ya just cant take that away to make a point. Its borderline discrediting.

I cna't speak for others, but it's not about wishing Moose was back - he's gone, that's over. But at this point teams know they can shade coverage toward Smitty's side because we really don't have a solid/consistent threat other then Smith. We need a "Moose-like" guy out there but yes, Moose and Jake did take time each season to "gel" and maybe the same will happen with Jake & Colbert or Jake & Gardner - Jake and someone. But bottom line for me is that we don't have a true #2 threat we can count on and to have a good season it's going to have to happen.

Agreed. I think only Fever was pushing that one.

The problem is, last year Colbert looked better than he does now.

I didn't neglect to mention shit, so try actually reading the thread before you post in it. Hell, Magnus and I just had another tizzy about this very issue, so read first. And as noted, he had nearly 25% of his season total in the one game against the Redskins. I can just as easily say that he was worse than those season totals if you take out that game, if you want to say that he was better than the season totals if you take out the early games. Either would be spin. The fact is that Moose didn't put up good numbers as a #2. Let's move on.

I wouldn't call it a tizzy. It just gets old bickering over the meaning of terms like "sucks", "awful", "not that good", "special" for no reason.

It doesn't have to be Moose back, just saying he is by far better than anything we have had this year, Smitty included. But to Smittys defense, Jake hasn't done a great job and Smitty is going to get the other teams best defender and double teamed at times or coverage help his way more.

I just want another option that is going to work out. I was hoping Jones would have had another year or two left in him before he retired, to give Colbert another year to get there.

No matter what, we are still going to have to address this before next year.

Muhsin had a great year, but I don't know if I'd call him better than Smith overall (he has had three years comparable or better than Smith's one, but that's not relevant). That, as a #2, he played better than Colbert did as a rook, or is doing now? Yeah.
Colbert should get better, and be "enough". I'm having a hard time being patient for that, since he was sold as production now in lieu of potential later, but he'll grow into it.

Uhm ... Freddie Jones was a tight end, not a wide receiver. Moreover, actually give Colbert a chance to catch some passes before giving up on him. Jake has only put a few within reach over the first two weeks, although I dearly wanted him to beat Harrison on that 3rd down bomb.
