My point is that they often aren't. I wonder if anyone else can chime in that this 'penalty' goes uncalled at least once every other game.

edit: Of course in light of all the other penalties missed it's not that often, but it does happen.

A lot of times you see quarterbacks call timeout after the clock hits zero and they give it to them instead of calling the penalty. I don't want a field buzzer or anything, but maybe they could buzz a ref like they do whenever the replay booth wants to review a call.

They ought to put a little firecracker inside the ball, and when the clock hits zero the firecracker should explode.

It's one of the pre snap responsiblities of the back judge. It should never happen but seems to all the time. The incident in question is a joke. Not sure what he was looking at.

There was, IMO, a pretty blatant delay of game in the Chicago playoff game in 2005. Of course, Lucas picked off a pass on the play so i was glad it wasn't called.

I can't believe that with technology the way it is, that they can't have a better mechanism to alert the official on the field that the play clock has expired. if you are only supposed to get 40 seconds to call a play, you should only get 40 seconds...not 41 or 42.

The official is supposed to look at the clock, and immediately look back at the ball. That's why the is always a natural delay. That should not take 1.35 seconds, so it was fuck up. The play should have never happened and Baltimore should not have had a first down. I don't blame Fisher for being upset.

Then again, Baltimore kinda got screwed on that reversal against Pittsburgh, so maybe karma had something to do with it.

If it happened in the first quarter nobody would be talking about it but it could have been just as important. Everyone likes to remember the plays late in the game.

Sure, but that's not an excuse.
