Could have done worse. Could have done better. The move likely keeps Colin Kaepernick a 49er.

I was hoping for the following:

    1. Coughlin
    2. Lovie Smith
    3. Shanahan
    4. Holmgren
    5. Kelly

Does this move improve the Niners?

You could a have done a lot worse. It's a good hire, but it does raise one interesting question:

WHY THE FUCK DIDN'T THEY JUST KEEP JIM HARBAUGH?? JESUS FUCKING CHRIST

It's probably exactly what they needed to revive Kaepernick. My concern, if I'm a Niners fan, is Kelly's crocodile tears about not wanting personnel control. It's only a matter of time before him and Baalke eat eachother alive.

The good part is that if Chip fucks up Baalke's dumb ass will be gone. Perhaps after that we'll get our shit together.

They'll likely both be gone. It's possible Chip is just doing this while waiting for a top college job to open up.

Not anytime soon. Going to be fun watching those two egos going at it. That being said, what assets do they have to trade away

I wouldn't want Kelly as my NFL coach....at....all.

    He's a boys' coach.

A coach where there's no parity, and where recruitment reins to get the talent better'n anybody you play.

Not where one has to sort through talent who is very close, so you must be able to sort through a small group in a highly subjective manner to plug them into your system where they'll be successful, either by draft, free agency or trade.

He's a coach who never coaches anybody for more than 1 to 3 years and then moves on. So relationships don't matter at all much. And talent differential is huge and easily developed to a particular system, molded to that because they are young, or fuck the fuck off and sit the bench or move on elsewhere. Where the team size is huge and not nearly as limited.

I'd be very surprised if he was successful in SF long term. He might have a great year next year and maybe the year after. Then he'll have a turnover of players, no continuity and will suffer long term, and not replace players with the right ones. Not without a great GM who makes him conform to NFL standards/nuances when it comes to personnel hire and development. And he's cried about not wanting that already anyway.

He's only successful when he's a big fish in a small pond.

    Buddy posted this....hahahaha.

    Update -

Chip Kelley is now the head coach for the 49ers. Which is excellent news for the Seahawks, Cardinals, and Rams. Apparently they haven't hit rock bottom yet.
