Charlotte Sayz: Bye, bye NBA . . Hello NHL ? ?

City leaders/Uptown Powerbrokers need a big dose of a REALITY CHECK and quick . . . . Read my lips: The NHL W-I-L-L N-O-T be coming to CHarlotte !!!!!! Where were these guys 5 years ago when the Whalers were in play ? I guess next week on WFNZ's PRIMETIME Bruton Smith (Speedway Motorsports Chairman who has expressed interest in trying to move another NBA team to CLT) will be on the show saying how he's going to move the Calgary Flames or Edmonton Oilers to the QUeen City . . .

I agree, with the Canes in Raleigh there is no way the NHL is putting another team in NC. Wishful thinking and downright stupidity on some people's part.

Yep, no way. First, the league wouldnt do it, second, even if they did the area couldn't support two teams. Raleigh is a good fit for NHL because of all the yankees who moved there for RTP. The Charlotte paper barely mentions the 'Canes. They do a better job than the Greensboro rag, tho. A one-inch column about each of their playoff games, until people wrote in and complained. And to think the team played here two years!!

I'd be happy with a nice new place for the Checkers to play though. With replays on a jumbo tron so we don't have to put up with stupid ass refs anymore. And a new sound system.....ahhhhhh. I can do without the NHL here, but God would I love it if they came.

I'd LOVE it if they did come here so the damn observer would be FORCED into making room in their stupid little sports section for more hockey!

I liked the Checkers when I used to live in Charlotte. We'd decide to go to a game on the spur of the moment, for cheap too. I remember a box with checker boards on each side with lights, and everytime the Checkers would score a loud horn or something would go off and the box would light up (I was a little kid). Funny, now I live near Greensboro, the team that was the bitter rival and the 'thug' team. Big big brawls when the Generals and the Checkers played.

HP I went when I was a kid too. That box is STILL there and it still lights up every goal.

And I LOVE the horn that goes off when we score. I just LOVE that noise. I miss it during the off season. Its music to my heart.

Puckbunny, have you ever played hockey? Are there any girls that play anywhere?

I play golf with a lot of Firemen that play Hockey in a league around Charlotte somewhere. They have mentioned a womans league before . Even talked about the fights.

I'd like to see that. I use to love to watch the roller derby. Those were some mean girls!

Patti if I could skate I'd be on a team, no doubt about it. Yes there is a womens league here... I have a friend and her daughter plays on it. If you want more info, lemme know and I'll see what I can find out for ya.
