I expect the season to spiral down unless the player nut up and play for pride and future jobs. But yeah, today Rivera became a lame duck, along with the rest of "his guys". Although their futures can be influenced by the remainder of the season. Although you also need to factor in the "Yeah they stunk, but it was Carolina, and the organization is a mess so you can't hold it against the coach/whomever"

especially from where it came from, I'd wonder whether that's all that was said. Easy to make that into something.

Don't know that it will matter, re: Rivera.

But I'll say, most of the players would be inclined to have some allegiance to Hurney. Not everyone thinks the guy is pure evil.

Of course they would. He drafted most of them and by all accounts was a nice guy. But there can be no doubt that alot of the contracts handed out by Hurney have caused and will cause alot of damage to this franchises future. His firing should stand on its own merits and what you're seeing is probably some frustration coming from players that the wrong guy was scapegoated today.

But you see CJ here is the problem, you havent made the Pro Bowl, took 3 years to make a real impact and you're getting paid like one of the best eva. You sure looked good against ATL but what about the other games?
Not saying you're a bad player but handing GREAT contracts to GOOD players is a problem.

We need a GM that's not just capable of making the tough decision but the right one too. Its fine to cut players we cant afford but they need to be replaced with quality. And there is alot of luck, shrewdness and finess involved on that.

How differently the season could have looked had Cam not fumbled in ATL

Magnus, could you tell me anything Hurney was good at besides interacting with people?

is there any point in letting you bait an argument?

The end result is that not everyone thought Hurney was the worst thing to happen to the universe. The idea that interacting with someone for years and respecting them when they're around and gone isn't unrealistic to most people.

Hurney will always remain the 1st round master drafter. So whoever we hire will have to live up to that hype.

Whether he got value in 5 of those picks being RB's and LB's is an arguement that''ll be lost in time.

So that's your way of saying you can't think of anything he was good at, right?

Eh, Hurney was solid in the first round but hardly great. Peppers was great, Gross was just solid, Gamble was solid, Thomas Davis hasn't proved worthy of #14, DeAngelo was solid, Beason was solid, Stewart was solid, Otah was a bust, Everette Brown (cost us a 1st) was a bust, and then the jury is still out on Cam & Kuechly. So Marty has a pretty high success percentage, but it's worth noting that he's hitting doubles instead of homers.

Fans will only remember straight busts. Otah is the only 1st rounder i can think of. Not too shabby. And he only failed because of attitude, he had the talent. Was Anderson a Hurney pick?
