He was released yesterday by the Colts. Do you think it would be practical to bring him back? I can't remember if he was a FS or SS.

He's a strong safety. Great hitter, good run support, but so is Mike, and he's better in coverage. We'd have to move Mike back to Free Safety.

He doesn't neccessarily have to start Piper. He'd be great off the bench especially if we lose Hitchcock.

We have two strong safeties already, two damn good ones. Bringing in Chad suggests one of two things:
*we're benching Grant for one of two players that's a lot less able in pass coverage
or
*we're bringing in Chad as a backup FS or moving Cooper to backup FS, meaning we'd have no depth at FS...we'd have to move Minter in haste in njury situation.
I'm uncomfortable with those two situations. Plus, Cota isn't very reliable in any scheme that suggests safeties having range. He's got the pass coverage range of a linebacker.
