Davis is fast. Benson is slow.

Davis cares about winning 1st. Benson cares about himself 1st. He said several times he would rather win the Heisman than beat Oklahoma. And it seemed perfectly in character.

only way I'd even consider a RB at 14 is if Brown or Cadillac drop somehow.

Wrong. We hear about Davis the high school sprinter, but he had bulked up significantly by the time he entered the NFL, so much so that he initially played fullback and not tailback. Meanwhile Benson is not as fast as Brown, but has comparable speed to someone like Shaun Alexander (who makes a better comparison than Ricky Williams).

Wrong. Mack Brown and the Texas coaching staff have had only sterling things to say about Benson's work ethic and leadership.

I thought you were wrong, but you weren't here. It should be noted, however, that Benson said he'd rather win a national championship than win the Heisman. Basically he was just saying that he didn't put much stock in the OU rivalry, not that he doesn't care about the team.

I'd say that SA has a bit more athleticism and overall skill outside, in the passing game, etc than Benson. Whether that matters a ton in this scheme is hard to say, though using Wahle specifically to improve the outside running game does push some negatives for Benson here, I guess.

Davis did have some burst still. He could still string out a sweep, could make something of a busted run. We didn't run too many short routes or screens to him, so it might be skewed to say, but he did fairly well on his rare opportunity with the passing game, too.

Benson has plenty of outside ability, he has just been so effective between the tackles that he doesn't have to bounce out much. In fact, if he conclude that Benson doesn't have great breakaway speed then he probably doesn't have many runs that stretch his ypc. Given that he averaged 5.6 last season and 5.3 as a junior, that implies an even more impressive ability to generate yards. And that's behind relatively young, inexperienced lines.

Then we disagree on his outside speed, and his shiftiness laterally. I'm not arguing that Benson won't be productive, I'm arguing that he's not a franchise back and that I feel he's over-rated.
