OK, so I burned my first CD last night (I know, I know--where have I been?). Anyway, I can tell a difference in the burned CD and the original. Is this normal? Is it a function of the burner or the media or the speed? Does anyone have any info on how to reduce the difference.

This first attempt was audio, but I will also want to burn files as data backup.

I can't tell a difference in mine. I wonder if I just haven't paid attention to it.

What kind of cd's are you using? I hope they're not cheap cd's...they scratch easy and when burned some times...how would I say it....over burn.

I try to get the best version of the song and then I burn it in real time. I think my copys sound better then the originals and I know they do when I burn them off a store bought cd. I don't use Sony blanks anymore. Imation, has been the best for me , even though they are cheaper than Sony or Memorex.

I used Memorex CD-R's 40X and burned at 16X on an external Yamaha CRX2200###. I loaded the original CD onto the hard drive using Windows Media Player and then burned them from the hard drive.

Maybe I'm just being picky...but I don't think so. I'm kind of disappointed. I don't know anything about speed so maybe that has something to do with it. This burner is supposed to have that overburn protection built into it. I did get one scratch on it too. Maybe that burner just doesn't like Memorex. Maybe I should try Imitation. And maybe I just bought a bad burner (but I did my homework and it sounded like a decent one). :(

This really does sound kinda odd, and I'm definatly scratching my head over it. Ususally if you have bad discs or a bad drive, you get no result. I'm wondering if your player has something to do with it.

What are you using for playback?
