is the 'man behind the curtain'.

    Thoughts:

We let go of a ton of guys who had upside down contracts, or dead money. We weren't sentimental. Those guys will NOT get big contracts in UFA.

I have a feeling there's going to be alot of those kinds of guys released from other teams for the same reason, and I have a feeling we'll be scooping them up on the cheap. We may even grab back some of our own, depending on our diplomatic skills.

I really doubt we're going into the season without veteran DL and veteran QB help. Might not be until after the draft, but we'll be grabbing older guys like D-Lew or Diggs on the cheap.

I hope they have some master plan because the DL is in shit shape right now. And while I like Hunter Cantwell as a future QB prospect I sure don't want him as the backup for 2010. Maybe we'll see something over the next week or so since I didn't expect them to be active for what few big names were out there.

Master plan is 2010 is a wash. If they win great, but if not no big deal. They're prepping for the future. We've officially entered the "rebuilding phase"

As for signing vets, we don't need to do anything until just before training camp. We have months to gather quality spares.

Seriously - a Brayton or 2, a Moose, a Peete. That might be all we need.

the end result is that the entire league needed a do-over, a clean slate. Contracts are getting excessive, and dead money is killing teams that want to be competitive.

Like us. We weren't able to do anything with dead money last year, so we were less competitive. Didn't sign anyone. This year, we can dump. We can spend again one day, though probably fiscally responsible and mostly on our own guys, and not be as encumbered by decisions based on players no longer on our team.

not a finished product of course. However I like our DL. I'd want Brayton back but our youth responded to Baker's coaching.

I can understand that but if that's the case doesn't that mean we either need to sign Fox or let him go? Doesn't make a lot of sense to me to start a rebuilding phase with a lame-duck head coach.

It does if you don't want to pay the coach to sit on his ass.
