Not really. That would include Moose's $10 million payment in there, which he shan't be receiving.

I do not think it is wise to let Rucker go. He is young and has been good even though is sack total was down last year. If we could work out a cap friendly extension for Minter that would be good but he is in decline and if we let him go I would understand. Mitchell needs to stay, our OL is too weak to let him go.

If we let Moose leave then we could bring in a low level veteran and maybe a second day pick for depth behind Smith and Colbert. I think we would be alright. I would much rather lose Moose than have to lose Minter, Mitchell and Rucker so we could keep him.

I was going to say he was old, but then I realized he was born the same year as I.

Well there goes what little bit of room we had:

Panthers defensive end Julius Peppers was already rich, but he entered a new tax bracket Wednesday. As a result of hitting several incentives in his contract, his base salary for the coming season rocketed from $850,000 to $4.665 million.

The increase was expected after his Pro Bowl season, in which he recorded 11.0 sacks. The escalator clauses were built into his rookie contract, a seven-year deal worth $52 million, with $13.1 million in bonuses.

    >>>The question is if the Panthers release Muhammad and free up $10.2 million or sign him to a contract extension and lower his cap hit to the $3 million to $4 million range?<<<

Hasn't it already been leaked that Moose and his agent are expecting about twice the pay range listed above? Since a guy like Porter apparently already turned down a 5 year deal worth $25 million and Burress will likely want even more than Porter what is the league leading WR going to demand? Someone here suggested that some other cap rich team could offer Moose a deal like this:

    3,000,000 + 2.0 5,000,000
    3,500,000 + 2.0 5,500,000
    3,500,000 + 2.0 5,500,000
    5,000,000 + 2.0 7,000,000
    6,000,000 + 2.0 8,000,000

Considering what TO got I don't think those numbers are that farfetched and we can't come close to that. Even if he did sign on with us for less in yearly salary it's the guaranteed bonus numbers that could F us up in dead money for a guy his age . . . and you can bet that his agent won't settle for an extension like the last one. He'll demand that his guy can cash in, whether he's still playing in a few years or not.

Taking all of this into account it is looking like #87 is outta here to me:(

$4 million is a slap to the face - why any Pro Bowl receiver would sign a $4 mil long term contract is beyond me. $4 mil wasn't market value in 99.
