    . . . just stumbled onto this, for what it's worth -

    http://www.askthecommish.com/salarycap/numbers.asp

16 teams in worse shape than us?!

including the other 3 teams in our division?!?!? :D

falcons at negative 14 million!?!?!?!? :evil3:

Could those numbers be accurate? I have no idea about the legitimacy of this info . . . just passing it along

    know what sucks?

I just realized looking at that list that most (if not ALL) of the top 10 teams cap-wise could definitely be in the market for a league leading WR

he says the vikes are cheap, but I'm sure they can spend something on the defense...

Restructuring Mitchell and a couple other short-term contract vets to longer contracts should quickly open up some money.
or we could cut a guy like that and Minter, and have $6 mil free and clear.

But that's not the right way to go, IMO.

another thing to consider - if Muhammad returns, you can guarantee that we'll be getting $765k in cap space back from Proehl's retirement. That could cover around 1/3 of Muhammad's total cap hit, which shouldn't be more than $2 million if done right (i.e. - a fair base salary initially rather than being horribly backloaded - a bare bones contract initially could be as cheap as $1 mil but cost us heavily in the end).

ahh hell, I'll just write it all down.

At least we are in better shape that than the rest of the division.

Good stuuf magnus. Brings up a ton of possible options that haven't been discused much, if at all. Like dropping Rucker and picking up a rook DE to rotate with Wallce. DE seems to be a position of relative strength in this years draft, especially in the first round with a guy like James Cody Pollack or Spears.

Problem is, as I noted, it's a net loss to do so. With 3 years on his deal, we'd have to deal with two years of proration. That's $2.2 mil.

Rucker took his $3.4 mil salary and pared it down to $600k last year. Leaving $2.8 million, that's spread through four years. Last year's obviously has counted, this year's counts no matter what; that leaves $1.4 million to be accounted for. Total burden for the cut would be $3.6 million, versus a salary savings of $3.14 million.

At least I'm pretty damn sure, I did it last night and this is just off memory.

Anyway, he and Davis don't give us a net gain. We could cut Minter with no burden, of course, and I don't really want to do that. Would be nice to hand him a very small bonus and a few $2 mil years for the future.

I say drop Weinke and Peete right now and that'll give us $2 million in space. Use that to work something for Moose, pick up someone like Brad Johnson and a 2nd day rookie. Johnson will likely want starters money and go for a starting job though, although there are more starters than jobs with Kurt Warner and possibly Brees and Bledsoe in the mix. If we could get a cheap vet QB, I'm all for dumping both of ours. We won't even need the 2nd day rookie, I forgot about Rutherford.
