After about 5 years, its finally happened
. . . .
Though I only heard part of the show today, on WFNZ's PRIMETIME w/THE PACKMAN, most of the callers today, according to him, were about the Canes!!!!!!!!!!! Quite a few people called to say that they were going to head up there Thursday night for game 1. Packman (aka Mark Packer) also talked about whether or not CLT was getting jealous of the TRIANGLE in light of the Hornets recent approval that they were moving to New Orleans (i.e. Raleigh is getting all of the positive buzz now on the national level).
During the 5pm hour today, he had Canes Prez. Jim Cain on the show (he marveled at the fact that he returned his call that same day vs. never being able to get the Prez. of the Panthers on the show or the Hornets owners back on the show as the whole arena issue got uglier after the arena referendum got voted down last June). Jim generally talked about the current fandomomium in the TRIANGLE about the Canes, the early missteps they had in the G'boro years, their 'CONTRACT w/THE FANS', etc. He also talked about the crowd that showed up at the ESA last night (he talked to some guys who came up from Goldsboro); also too he mentioned that 8% of the folks who are coming up for the playoff games were coming from the CLT area (he acknowledged that the team needs to do a better job promoting the team here; hopefully this will finally lead to a local radio/TV being signed here for next season
!!!!!!!!!!!!!).
Packman towards the end of the interview talked about Ric Flair (he & the Nature Boy had a charity chess game here in town this past Friday). Jim talked about how they play his 'Whhhhhhhhhoooooooooo' whenever the Canes score a goal and he talked about how he just became a fan of the team over the last year or two. Jim extended an invitation to Pack to check out 1 of the first 2 games at the ESA, and Pack said he just might have to do it now.
Yeah, yeah Packman might be hoping on the Canes bandwagon late, but considering that the Hornets are now gone, he's going to have to find something else to talk about during the winter besides ACC hoops. Or better yet, maybe he moves up to Raleigh and work at THE BUZZ. Adam Gold & the Packman at one station, man would that be interesting SPORTSTALK RADIO CHATTER
!!!!!!!
