POSTERS NOTE: Thought I'd give a quick report of yours truly's first ever trip on WFNZ's BIG UNIT. I won 4 tixs to today's Canes/Thrashers game in ATL
CRUISING IN WFNZ's BIG UNIT: Traveling down to Phillips Arena on WFNZ's BIG UNIT was a blast
!!!!!!! The only minor bad part about it was the other winners who had won tixs never showed up
!!!!!!! I'm sure they were probably hung over from Sat. night ( like my boss was; She was suppose to come on the trip as well but she got so trashed Sat. night that she was too sick to make the trip). Too bad I didn't have some of your guys phone numbers so this could've been another TBR.com Party
!!!! So the final trip on WFNZ's RED HOOK HOCKEY TOUR turned out to be me, 'Barracuda' , and a ex-roommate of mine. Mike Scheurman (WFNZ's point man for the RED HOOK Promotion). George did the driving while Holly rode shotgun (I think these were their names).
We didn't leave until 10:30am (we waited as long as we could for the other folks to show up) but we ended up getting there right at 2:30pm. THE GAME & PHILLIPS ARENA: If folks here in CLT think THE HIVE is still a nice arena, they really need to take a trip down to the ATL and check out PHILLIPS ARENA!!!!! From the sound system and concession stand selections (there was a JACK DANIELS concession stand on the lower level!!!), to the scoreboards (they have those new dot matrix boards that line the mezzaine level that can show graphics & run ads), watching a game there is a totally different experience!!!! With all of the skyboxes/clubseats on 1 side of the arena, this brings all of the other seats in the arean closer to the action (our upper level seats weren't that bad at all). Gamewise, the Thrashers twice had leads over the Canes (1-0 & 2-1), but once again they couldn't get the 'W' against Carolina for the first time. To me at least, it seems that several times the Thrashers had possession of the puck right by the net, but they were looking more to pass vs. shoot the puck. Their coaching staff needs to drill in them next year to do this more often . . . What's the old saying: The only bad shot on goal is the one not taken (or something like that
!!). I was surprised that Irbe started in goal for the Canes instead of Kevin Weekes, but I guess Coach Mo wanted to give Archie one more start in goal before the playoffs started. He still makes me nervous when he's trying to play the puck though
. . . Don Edwards (Canes Goalie Consultant) needs to work with him on this big time!!!!!!!!
Overall, the entire day was really cool . . . Hopefully WFNZ will continue this promotion next season!!!! Like I said before, it was nice to see the station this year finally start showing some love to the tons of puckheads in the area!!!!! I'm sure over time, more folks will start finding out about this promotion and check out the RED HOOK HOCKEY PARTIES and sign up for a spot on the BIG UNIT for the road trips down to Atlanta, Raleigh for the NHL and the Checkers games. Keep the current 50/50 mix (NHL & ECHL games) but try to squeeze in 3 trips each to Raleigh & Atlanta (especially a night game in the ATL with a stop in Buckhead or Midtown after the game
!!!!). Props again to the crew over at WFNZ for today's trip . . . It was a blast I certainly would like to do again next year
!!!!!!!!
