I certainly don't have any "just getting there is enough" crap going on. And you certainly don't hear the 'Canes saying that.

In reality, Detroit was put together just so they would win THIS year. Hull, Hasek and Robataille all came over so they could win a Cup in their last hurrah.

I'm so against that its not even funny. To me, its the hockey version of "i'll bend over and you can fuck me up the ass just as long as I get a trophy for it". Pretty sad, in my estimation.

That being said, I think Detroit will win. They DO have tons of talent. That won't stop me for cheering against them though - and against the mighty egos of themselves and their fans.

Colorado does the same thing...so does St, Louis, New Jersey, etc (the big market teams). The Rangers have the highest payroll in the league and didn't even make the playoffs. So don't give me that bullshit. Small market teams such as Carolina can't afford to pay several players the going rate for superstars which is 7-8 million per year. So, in the last year of their contracts they get traded to the Colorados, S.,Louises, Detroits, etc. They become the NHL's version of a renta -player. That's the way the NHL will be until 2004 when the bargaining agreement is over. The NHL doesn't have a TV contract like the NFL, NBA, and MLB have, so the teams have to make their money on ticket sales...again, small market, smaller demand, lower prices, less revenue, can't afford top talent.


The players Detroit actaully wanted were Tkachuck and Jeremy Romeick...both of whom chose other teams whom they thought had the best chance to win the cup. The wings settled for Robitalle after losing Lapointe in free agency. Then Shanny and Yzerman cut their salaries in oder to sign hull. Everyone is under contract for next season, so they will be expected to win again next year....and with a 100% Yzerman that will be a lot easier. The only 'star' doing anything against the canes is federov.


If you remember, Borque and Blake went to the Avs so they could win a cup.

Any thoughts of a Canes demise, or quitting, are both short-sighted and inaccurate.

Your little birdwings have to come south. Play at the ESA. In front of transplanted Yankees, as well as Southerners that enjoy winning.

A beautiful sight is State, UNC and Duke fans, united against a common enemy. The Communists from the Motor City. Leave your artillery in Detroit, or Buford will ensure you do your best "Ned Beatty/Deliverance" imitation.
