    Just some thoughts/questions:

    1. Just as a precursor, I am a Jake Delhomme fan, but it seems like there is some value at backup QB in this draft with Charlie Whitehurst, Gradowski, Hackney, and Croyle. Now I realize that some team(s) will reach and get a couple of these players before they should, but it seems like we could get a good backup in maybe the 4th or something close to that. This would give us a player who actually could potentially do something if he were to step on the field, unlike a certain Stefan Lefors.

    2. Just a couple of names at running back to throw out there: DonTrelle Moore out of New Mexico...5'10'' 210lbs. or Gerald Riggs...6'00" 217 (listed). Not first round material I don't believe, but could be of interest.

    3. What about Devin Hester in the late first day (or will he not last that long?) as a punt returner/wide receiver that we could groom. yes, we already have too many projects at wideout, but its a thought. If not, Skyler Green out of LSU? We could really use some playmaking ability on offense other than just #89

    Thoughts?

first, you should try the exercise, at least through the first day. Go in with an assumption or two, like us re-signing Foster, for instance, or whatever you want, and do the first 3-4 picks based on the idea that you can't pick anyone before 27 on the list, and so on.

    Your questions:
    1. I'm assuming that, though LeFors wouldn't necessarily keep us from drafting a QB (we drafted Fasani after Weinke), I doubt we'd do it to be a 2nd QB. I'm looking for a cheap vet there, so I don't have much opinion on a QB for this system.

    2. I like Moore more than Riggs, but either would make good backups.

    3. I like Hester and Green. Hard to say where Green goes, but Hester will probably end up in the top 80. Getting a PR/KR is again one of my priorities, but I doubt the team will vary from their Smith/Gamble pairing at PR; the problem there is that we haven't had good KR units for a couple years now. Robertson finally getting his chance ended up being a bit disappointing in the regular season, ending around where Smith was, and not having much extra burst. You wanted to see a guy like that, with moves, be able to get in the open some; you don't want to see him go right into a pile. But he pretty much emulated Smart there.

#23 actually looked really good to me, but #27, not so much.

    assumed re-sign Foster/Witherspoon/McCree.

    add veteran WR, QB.

27 – Jay Cutler – QB – Vandy – despite having signed a vet FA, if somehow he fell, I couldn’t pass
    59 - Babatunde Oshinowo - DT - Stanford
90 – Dominique Byrd – TE – USC – I let you guy’s talk me into that one.
    128 – Nate Salley FS - OSU
    160 – Cedric Humes – RB – Va Tech.
    241 – Conner Hughes – K Maryland
243 – Jahri Evans – OG – Bloomsburg State (our 2006 Joe Berger pick)

    Here are my picks.

    27 – Brian Calhoun RB 5-10, 195 Wisconsin

Didn't like much of what else was out their, so I took the need. He's a good reciever and has speed, and was a productive runner at his level, although only for one year.

    59 - Babatunde Oshinowo - Davin Joseph OG 6-3, 315 Oklahoma

Our type of player, an athletic guard.

    90 – Kyle Williams DT 6-2, 295 LSU

    Hard working DT.

    128 – Mike Hass WR 6-1, 210 Oregon State

Very productive college player. Having a good first couple of days at SB I hear.

    160 – Matt Bernstein FB 6-1, 265 Wisconsin

We need an old fashioned FB, you say?

    241 – Tony Scheffler TE 6-6, 250 Western Michigan

    Looks the part.

    243 – Will Blackmon WR/CB/ST

Getting anything from this low would be gravy.

You know how much I hate drafting QBs in the first round, but I have to admit that I have been giving this some consideration. I can't speak about him because I didn't get the chance to watch him, but the more I read, the more I like what I hear.

    hasbeen99:
I didn't see Simpson, but I'm not big on Justice. He'd be fine as a RT or maybe LT, but I don't see him being much of an upgrade over what we already have. At this point I really wish there was a dominant center in this class, although I could live with trading down for Mangold. My ideal scenario is somehow getting DeAngelo Williams, which I thought might be possible from #23, but now it sounds like teams are too high on him even for that.

Another thing to consider is that the Panthers have developed a pattern of not necessarily utilizing even first day picks as rookies.

I truly appreciate those of you that can add insightful information to the upcoming class. When the Panthers lost the season ended. I know a lot of you complain about the number of draft posts but what else is there.

    Let the games begin.

I love draft posts. I just hated that, pre-Giants game, post-Atlanta blowout, everybody wanted to talk draft and nobody wanted to talk about the actual games. I love the draft but game > draft.

I guess I should stop putting off doing my own sim, so here goes.
