Cam Newton vs Peyton Manning

Maybe they were trying to help energize that fanbase? I don't know, good question. I know it won't ever happen again.

 

I'm OK with a very cold Super Bowl. It's football in February, for Christ's sake.



Maybe the NBA thing would've been easier had either of its first two stars stuck around long enough. Mourning definitely could've been a star here, and LJ would've had his back been up to it, partially because he had that big personality. Muggsy was just a really neat little man.

Newton has the national stage right now. If things go well, he can be an icon. But longevity definitely matters.

As for the Newton v/s Manning deal, I don't know. I know if I were working on a bar to set for him, I'd want someone with more than one championship. I do think, realistically, that it's not a reach to expect Newton to outperform Manning from here on, of course.
