Gantt tweeted that Rivera was "selling the heck out of" the idea of Newton in Carolina, if indeed it was a smokescreen.

I mean, we have reasons to over-sell Newton to drum up synthetic interest from other teams, but I don't believe teams are dumb enough for that. The process is too thorough during the combine, and beyond, for this kind of conjecture to have an impact.

Newton--as Mags will tell you--is horrible for the system. And the whole "BPA" narrative is very subjective (Is a 6-6, 250 LB QB with a strong arm and great legs a "better player" than a dominant 3-technique DT?)

We'll see. Going to be an interesting couple months.

tie would go to the QB if both were equally talented. I won't dispute that. QB talent always tends to work on a separate plane anyway. It may in this case, if he can try not being a douchebag for at least two months.

 

the "entertainer" quote is being a little overcooked, per usual, by a very hungry media contingent. not saying i'm all aboard the Cam-Express, but there have been many locks-to-flops, and conversely, flops-to-keepers. hurney's drafted his balls off, in terms of first round home-runs. here's to another wise pick.

 

depends on how much he really believes it. This is a job interview for head of a franchise, essentially, and it pays $50 mil a year. It's reasonable to want to say his most important goals are your most important goals without having said something else first and then being coached otherwise.

I would also add that it's probably wise to expect Moore to depart, as well as the "stuffing" of Pike on the PS. I'd fully expect Hurney to make a play for a number of veteran QB's, with or without Newton/Gabbert.
