I don't think the team 'likes' it.

But there are rules, and money has to be cleared. Someone has to go - if not Buckner - who? And more are coming.

    Short?

There's nobody else that will show a good savings and isn't pepp or jenks or delhomme or something.

Find an aging guy on the last year or 2 of his deal that isn't TOTALLY critical. I find Buckner and Short and Rucker.

from that article: "...but the Panthers still have moves to make. They'll need to clear between $8 million and $10 million off their salary cap to fit under the anticipated limit of $95 million...."

Whoa, this is gonna get pretty ugly. Is it time for a "who's next?" pool?

If Buck is a cap casualty, I have to think Short almost certainly is. They've got younger guys they want to play behind him, and he's not been that critical to the defense anyway.

so even if the cba does get extended, they'll just be at around zero..nice.

Wallace's price tag is smaller than Rucker. Wouldn't be surprised to see Rucker go and Wallace start.

Wallace is definitely a candidate, but I seriously doubt Kasay's in much trouble. The only upgrade out there that I know of is Vinatieri, and he'll cost twice as much. There aren't even any decent kickers in the draft this year.

Edit: I just remembered Vanderjagt. I doubt he'd be much of a cap savings, though, and may not have the right kind of personality for the team anyway.

Still wouldn't mean a purge. The new CBA would've made it easier to rework some deals. The lack of forces a purge rather than manipulation of funds.
