Sometimes, players near the end of their careers will come back to their old teams for cut-rate minimum salary deals.

Don't count on that happening with any the players the Carolina Panthers let go.

Defensive tackle Brentson Buckner, one of the first players released in last week's salary cap-driven moves, gave a quick answer to that question.

"Noooooooo," Buckner said, drawing it out for emphasis when asked if he'd consider coming back here for a cheaper deal. "Nope, not at all."

It's not that he's bitter about his exit, as he admitted he could almost see it coming. It's just that he sees himself as a valuable contributor to a good team, and said if the Panthers didn't view him in the same way, he's glad to get the pink slip when he did.

"After you go to the NFC Championship Game, you hope to get a chance to run it back, but it wasn't in the cards," Buckner said. "I told my agent, I'm not going to be one of these guys who bounces around to three or four teams at the end. I've got too much respect for the game to do that. I'll walk away before I'm just out there collecting checks.

"I've got too much respect for the Panthers organization to be mad at them. I'm glad if I'm not in their plans that they tell me now. I've got too much love for my teammates there, I wouldn't want them to look at me like I was the weak link."

Nice comments. He's going to have a long and good career on TV.
