He's got two rings despite being such a crappy punter.

I don't get pleasure out of it, but it beats the guy being a pussy who can't kick, which is his job.

That's the thing, the attitude doesn't fucking matter. If a punter isn't a positive, he's just the guy who eats his lunch by himself. This is a whole bunch of rage over nothing.

He did agree to those terms. He is a Panther and I am sure his contract does not say that he only kicks. He is supposed to do what is asked of him if he is a loyal employee. If he does not like what is asked he can leave. Bottom line. Hell I bet if he was taking the stairs every time he would not have to worry about his weight. Fuck his agent for not making it a fat percent.

Panthers nix Sauerbrun offer to trade field goals for fines

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Carolina Panthers let All-Pro punter Todd Sauerbrun veto a tryout for kicker Bill Gramatica. But they drew the line at letting their outspoken punter trade field goals for fines.

Sauerbrun revealed Wednesday that the team has fined him some $40,000 so far this season _ $6,000 for each week he's weighed in at more than 217 lbs. He said he offered to fill in for injured kicker John Kasay this week, but only if the team forgives some of the fines.

Carolina said no, and with Kasay questionable for Sunday's game against Arizona, the Panthers have added kicker Jeff Chandler to their practice squad.

Sauerbrun was an emergency fill-in last week when Kasay strained his calf, converting four extra points and a 34-yard field goal in a win over San Francisco.

He offered to do double duty again, ``but they'd have to give me some of that fine money back,'' he said Wednesday.

``I'm a pound or two overweight. I don't even want to get into it, it's my fault. But it just gets so annoying getting that letter every week in your mailbox.''

The Gramatica problem was simpler to resolve.

Sauerbrun has a running feud with the first family of field goals _ Bill Gramatica; brother Martin; even baby brother Santiago.

When the Panthers asked this week about bringing Bill Gramatica, a free agent, in for a tryout, Sauerbrun objected.

Forcing Sauerbrun to hold the ball on kicks by any Gramatica would be begging for a real-life recreation of all the ``Peanuts'' comic strips in which Lucy pulled the ball away when Charlie Brown would try to kick it.

``I don't want to get along with (Bill), he's a stereotype kicker just like the rest of his brothers are. That's all he'll ever be and there's no place for him here,'' Sauerbrun said Wednesday.

The Panthers say there's no place for the extra pounds Sauerbrun carries on his stocky frame.

Sauerbrun says he simply can't control his appetite. He said the most over his prescribed weight that he has been this season has been four pounds.

Even knowing he faces a weigh-in, Sauerbrun said he can't limit his portions in the food line.

``It's really hard for me to skip a meal. I can't go to bed hungry. I can't do it. I've tried, man, I've tried,'' he said. ``I'm not a junk food guy. It's just I like good, hearty (food). I like meatloaf, gravy, mashed potatoes. You know what I mean? That's what we just had for lunch.''

Sauerbrun is often a handful for the Panthers (2-7).

There's no question he's one of the best punters in the NFL. He's led the NFC the past three seasons in gross punting average _ the only player since 1970 to do so.

But he's outspoken and aggressive _ especially on tackles _ and sometimes talks a little too much for Carolina's liking.

He has his sights on making it into the Hall of Fame someday, and believes he'll end his career as the best punter in NFL history. That means Ray Guy, considered by many as the best ever, comes in second in Sauerbrun's mind.

``I never seen him play, but I also never saw him kick brand new balls out of the box, either,'' Sauerbrun said. ``He's not the greatest punter that ever was, I'm sorry. There's no way. No way.

``I can't even compare the kickers and punters today to years back because of those new kicking balls. I mean, I've got to wear a glove just to catch those things now. Back then, they were kicking those rugby balls. If we had those balls back that they were kicking, you couldn't even classify any of those guys in our categories at all.''

I think the entire interview is a joke. TS has a reputation of saying ANYTHING, most of it untrue. He wasnt going to kick anyway. He's not good enough, although he did well Sunday. It was an opportunity for him to say something outrageous, and he took it, thinking that no one would take what he said seriously.

As far as the weight, he's 4 lbs overweight. I don't think its a big deal. He is a very good punter. I think he's making about 1.4 mil, or maybe 1.7.

5 years, $7.5 mil. That's a mil and a half, where he'd be getting $770k a year at the min.
    Kasay's getting $8.1 million.

Oh, and while we're at it - if Kasay's out, and Chandler's on the PS, is it just me or is it obvious that we're playing a little game here?

    Kasay's actual: 5 year $8.5 million, includes a $2 million signing bonus and base salaries of $800,000 (2004), $1.2 million (2005), $1.3 million (2006), $1.3 million (2007) and $1.5 million (2008) and $200,000 roster bonuses if he's on the roster in 2005 and 2007.
