"His fists are the size of lunchboxes." - classic.

I think that Gabe Gonzaga would be a good next fight for him.

The guys is an awesome athlete. I thought he might have a future in the NFL as a pass rusher but it did not work.

He is not an awesome athlete which is why it did not work out in the NFL. He is an average athlete with slow reflexes. But he is big and strong and has decent balance, probably due to his wrestling training (the Greco-Roman variety, not the wrastlin'). And he looks like he has spent some time on basic boxing techniques, which is good, though I see a wide open lower leg. Lesnar also has issues with cardiovascular conditioning.

The issue with Couture was 1) He got caught because he wasn't moving laterally at that moment, and 2) They are the same base style (wrestling, ground-and-pound) with some 50+ pounds and significant strength going to Lesnar. Lesnar and Couture should not have been in the same weight class.

Didn't Frank Mir already beat Lesnar with a submission (I think I am remembering that correctly)? If Lesnar were to go against a guy comfortable on his back, the same relative size/strength as him, and can take advantage of his weakness in standup (lower leg kicks, angled hooks and uppercuts), like Antonio Nogueira, it would be a different fight... unless Nogueira got cocky, like he sometimes does, and stood up with Lesnar without moving his feet. It only takes a single punch, even a glancing one, for a guy like Lesnar to drop anyone under 250 pounds. But Lesnar won't beat a guy like Nogueria with the ground-and-pound.

Lesnar ran a very fast time for his size when he tried out for the NFL. He just had very little background in football.

He lost to Frank Mir but he was in control most of that fight. He just made a rookie mistake and got caught in a submission. He was standing over Mir trying to decide what to do next when Mir got him in a leg lock. Of course if not for the UFC's rules against kicking an opponent who is down Lesnar could have just stomped the shit out of Mir.

Ah ok. I never saw the Mir fight, just read about it and saw the highlights before the Couture fight.

Lesnar is a significant force. But it is due to his size and strength, not his athletic ability (balance, reflexes, coordination). Some of that can be trained into you, as well as the cardio, so if he puts the effort into the gym working on his weaknesses, rather than living a celebrity lifestyle, he could be something other than the latest behemoth. We'll see.

Everything is relative. Lesnar is athletic for a man of his size. Most guys his size are clumsy. He is not athletic compared to Steve Smith....

Too bad MMA came along after Abdullah the butcher was past his prime, that fork to the eye technique would be devastating in the octagon....
