I kept waiting for the Pace car to have to pit for new tires and fuel.

Wrong. Indianapolis Motor Speedway needs NASCAR and vice versa. In my opinion, Indianapolis is becoming the most important & the most significant race of the year over Daytona - despite a flaw in this new car design. Im certain in the off-season, NASCAR will change the design to where the tire issues won't be a problem. Also, with 250,000 packing the stands, NASCAR cant afford to lose racing at IMS.

But one thing that really pisses me off is the naming of the event. Instead of just calling it The Brickyard 400....NASCAR allows it to be The Allstate 400 at The Brickyard. Why cant they just leave it as The Brickyard 400 or even "The Brickyard 400 presented by Allstate"? That would be like calling The Daytona 500 or The Indianapolis 500 something else for promotional purposes.

NASCAR's race there is viewed as more popular than the Indy race in May. Indy needs NASCAR now, since they've been ther 15 years already.

NASCAR is taking the heat, but ultimately, Goodyear needs to make better equipment, and NASCAR needs to hold their feet to the fire when they fail.

ok, here is what i heard on the FOX this morning. Elliot Sadler said that testing was done at the track (as posted above). the tire wear issue was realted to the "diamond ground" surface, done before the Idianapolis 500. Indy cars, being much lighter than the COT would have no trouble with the more abrasive surface. in fact, it helped them. NASCAR drivers had the option of a harder compound, slicker (more durable) tire or opt for the softer, better handling tire. they did not want another Atlanta (remember what happened there?), so they opted for the softer compound at the Brickyard. the COT is a much heavy car, even more so on the right side and the downforce is a good bit more than what they had in the past. match all these factors with the fact that the diamond grinding left the track surface resembling a cheese grater, and you had little rubber pills washing up onto the outside perimeter of the track, instead of wearing into the track surface. this track did not "rubber in" as a normal "green" track would, during the race, under normal conditions, like you have everywhere else. you had to know that the head men at NASCAR and the Indy facility were sweating bullets, knowing what lay ahead. i'm not yet convinced that they thought it would be even this bad.

I also ask, are you kidding? that is one of the worst tracks on the schedule. now the history of the place, number of people that attend, etc, can't be denied but the actual shape and no banking make for a flat piece of crap.its like they are trying to blend all of the history with NASCAR but it just seems forced.

Agreed, and year after year all that becomes less and less relevant.

So my point that Indy is not a good track for NASCAR is correct.

Indy is a great track to race on. If Indy cars can go 240 MPH on their tires then damn NASCAR should be able to do it at slower speeds. They always had a good race until the shit tires this year.
