Black Monday/Generic Coaching Change Thread

Whisenhunt canned in Zona, along with GM Graves.

 

The last team I'm waiting to hear from is Tennessee

 

Lovie isn't shocking in hindsight. They've missed the playoffs five of the last six years, and their current GM didn't hire him. Hiring Mike McCoy would be pretty god damn fucking stupid, though.

Surprised Muncheck stayed, even though I don't think he's done an awful job there. It sounded like Adams was ready to clean house.


Nothing else surprising. If we fire Rivera, it wont be until we hire a new GM. And even then, I think he's safe. I don't expect Mularkey to survive a GM change.

 

I didn't realize Munchak had been with the organization in some capacity since 1982. Crazy, and certainly explains why he got more time.

 

I think they've asked.



Lovie's not an incredible coach, but he's pretty good. There would be worse things here.

 

Schematically, McCoy makes some sense, and he knows Cutler/Marshall. But he'd be a pushover.

I really don't get why Dirk Koetter is getting all this attention either. Funny enough, both guys apparently come from that retarded Henning side of Coryell.

 

Coordinators get overvalued for hot seasons the same way that QB prospects get overvalued for arm strength. Plus, as many have noted, McCoy incorrectly got a lot of credit for how he handled Tebow. It's annoying that so many owners and GMs don't understand how different the jobs of head coach and coordinator are.

I can get the want to promote coordinators. College coaches are largely a no-go even now with more college ideals in the NFL, and retreads don't often bear fruit. I just don't get Koetter, or McCoy.
