Big mistake, if that actually does happen. Kelly wants to build around himself, not the other way around.

I can understand a coach wanting personnel that can run his scheme, but this ain't the 70's and 80's NFL. It's a 24/7 big money business that takes a cadre of dedicated, highly intelligent people to run effectively. I see nothing in Kelly's resume that suggests he's capable of captaining that big a ship.

A college head coach doesn't really have to answer to too many people. He doesn't have to jump, he already makes good money, so he might feel like he needs to make demands.

But, it's a bit of a disaster. Guys who want the extra power don't want to answer to anyone, and that can be a red flag. You shouldn't be doing GM type duties without the ability to do so, and the time. Some guys just don't want to be told no, so they take on more than they need.

I like Kelly but agree that would be a huge mistake. Dealbreaker.

And I guess I'm that desperate, since I would consent to giving Kelley personnel control. I know it's a bad idea, but it's not like the Panthers have had anyone who wasn't an idiot doing that lately, plus I get why a coach with such a personnel-dependent scheme would want to pick the players.

Shefter reporting Jacksonville to fire their gm after game and Tom Gamble of San Fran (mentioned as a candidate for the Panthers)

yeah, it would be a disaster.
I'll also add that it makes the front office hires more critical, not less critical, and yet depends on people who know they would be entering into less ability. Anyone can find spread personnel, it's everywhere.

yahoo.com refutes that Rivera will be fired, instead saying he's "safe". It goes on to call Lombardi's statement opinion.

When Mike Lombardi says something, the opposite usually happens.
