before the game, the detroit free press wrote:

If the Giants pull off this win, usurping the Jets in Super Bowl III as the biggest upset in NFL history, will that make Eli Manning more accomplished than his brother, Peyton?

I mean, think about it. Peyton's claims to fame are: A. The Super Bowl victory last year and B. The touchdown record.

Now, the TD single season record (49) was erased by Tom Brady this season. And, if the forgotten Manning can spoil "The Greatest Team in the History of Civilization," won't Eli's be remembered for generations to come, instead of Peyton?

I still think the Jets win over the Colts was bigger but this was right up there.

Disagree, the 'undefeated' factor trumps everything else that's ever happened.

I don't know what I would call the biggest but definately not this one. A fair amount of media were calling for a Giants win.

It would have to be regular season game considering no team in the SB can be a bad team.

Not sure why this would be that big of an upset...they only beat the Giants by 3 in the regular season. The pats haven't really played that well the past month or so...and the Giants and Eli have been playing pretty damn good ball.

The Jets over the Colts by far the biggest upset.

I was remembering how it was then, right after the merger. No AFL/AFC team had won and the conference as a whole was seen as inferior, and by a good margin. The Super Bowl itself wasn't really seen as much more than an exhibition game back then. It was huge at the time and it's not a stretch to say the Jets' victory was instrumental in making the Super Bowl into what it became.

But I'm not really arguing this, Giants played great and few expected them to have a chance.

Not to mention the spread, I believe, was like 17 points in the Colts/Jets Super Bowl...todays spread was like 12. Which was too high anyway.
