Hard to argue against Payton. Real fucking hard. They're perennial playoff contenders, Superbowl winners with him there, and when he's gone, they fall to shit. He comes back and they're off to a 5-1 start?

BB has to be in the conversation too, sure. Harbaughs are definitely there. But Jim got a cumshot in his eye from his brother and twice a year from Carroll...and Carroll might be in the conversation soon....

I guess I give it to Payton?

Kind of interesting that Coughlin never gets mentioned when he's the only coach to win two trophies since Belichick.

Denver has the smell of an incredible disaster. Lost All-Pro LT + no running game + Peyton having terrible arm strength. I hope it happens simply for the hilarity that will ensue.

    Herm Edwards on Next Coach...

But former NFL coach Herm Edwards said Newton should be the Panthers’ quarterback regardless of who is the coach.

“The new head coach coming in has to look at Cam Newton and go, ‘OK, let’s fix this guy. What do I do to make him a good player?’ Because I’m going to look at the (2014) draft, and they say there are good quarterbacks coming out,” said Edwards, an ESPN studio analyst. “But (Newton) right here’s a pretty good quarterback now. If it was me – and I don’t coach anymore – I take the guy and I (find) the best quarterback coach that I can hire.”

This implies: 1. Cam needs to be "fixed" and 2. We currently do not have a good quarterbacks coach.

Not many teams do, in my opinion. Most of the QB work appears to be in the film room, which is fine and all, but then the backups are just standing around during practice. I've long advocated a radically different approach to instruction. In any case, not only the 2014 but also the 2015 draft are going to be really strong with quarterbacks. It's hard for me to believe how many quality prospects are at the college level right now.
