I'm not totally understanding the panic. Mangum can be replaced pretty easily. Seidman can be re-signed. King might be good - we don't know. Why the hate on Gaines? The staff obviously likes him - he started over Mangum a bit.

Shawn Williams and Colin Branch are still available.

Other than Mangum, we can replicate last year's safety and TE corps. I'm not saying that's great - by any means - by it's not panic worthy.

Who's gonna play safety? Minter and either Deke Cooper, Shawn Williams, Cam Newton, Nate Salley, Colin Brnach, or some other dude we sign or draft.

There's adequate TE's to sign, also.

I'd say the problem at safety is Minter's health. If he get's injured, we're in a pretty tight spot.

But after the top 3 went ( and I guess the FO figured to pass on them when they traded down ), I didn't see any safety who I thought absolutely improved the group we have, or can sign in Branch and Williams. On the contrary, Kalil, Johnson, and Jarret absolutely improved those groups.

If I would question anything, I'd question Beason. You could say we essentially traded Reggie Nelson for Beason and Kalil. For about the same money, too. I think that's a good deal.

    Time will tell.....

    :iagree:
Veteran FA + Gaines + King = full complement of disappointing TEs, and I really don't think any safety at this point would be a long-term solution, so why not just sign a veteran there and try to address it again next year?

That and wait for June when a few high price vets get walking papers after the first practices are done

That doesn't happen in June anymore and hasn't for a couple of years now. It sucks for teams that still have holes at that point, but that's the way it goes.

Key made a good point about getting a Safety this year for Minter to mentor...I found it strange he didn't mention Salley. I actually like Salley and feel the team has confidence in him to eventually start.

Safety is supposed to be deep, and there's still a few TE's...fuck it, I can't be positive

It just fucking kills me we could have had Olsen & Rouse.

This is the most disappointed I've ever been about the Panthers draft.

We've got 4 players rated in the top 50, instead of reaching for need.

Salley hasn't looked too hot, based on what I've seen. He has a great attitude. He did show a few flashes on special teams, which is encouraging, but he's very limited as a safety.

I don't want to see him anywhere near the starting line-up.

that's a good point, but what are we going to do with 3 Centers?

why would you want to mention some one who was cut coming out of camp for stinking so bad and only picked up when injuries hit? Salley isn't starter material and probably never will be.
